Transparency in Agave Spirits
In the world of tequila, transparency is often a rare commodity. Mexico's regulations allow tequila producers to add certain ingredients in small amounts (up to 1% by volume) without needing to disclose them on the label. These additives can include caramel coloring, oak extract, glycerin, and sugar syrup. Unfortunately, this lack of transparency can leave consumers in the dark about what they're really drinking.
Recently, the Tequila Regulatory Council (Consejo Regulador del Tequila, CRT) has taken actions to restrict the use of terms like "additive-free" in labeling and marketing. They have also held brands accountable for any "additive-free" descriptions on third-party websites, leading to the removal of such designations from platforms like Tequila Matchmaker.
At Gavé, we believe that consumers deserve to know exactly what they're drinking. That's why we are proud to be additive free and promote transparency and honesty in the agave spirits industry. While we are not part of the Additive Free Alliance, we strongly support their efforts to promote transparency in the tequila industry. Unfortunately, they recently had to take down their entire list of additive-free tequilas due to regulatory pressure.
Unlike tequila producers in Mexico, we are not bound by the same regulations that allow for undisclosed additives. This freedom allows us to be fully transparent in our messaging and to guarantee that our products are made with only the highest quality ingredients. Our commitment to transparency means that you can trust every bottle of Gavé to be free from hidden additives and artificial enhancements.
We are here to make the journey to finding a truly authentic agave spirit easier. By choosing Gavé, you are choosing a brand that values honesty, quality and transparency. We invite you to join us in celebrating the purity of Gavé and to experience the difference that transparency makes.
